RHS Hampton Court 2017

We had the most wonderfully successful time at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show, July 2017……and the weather could not have been more glorious.
While we were showing work, painting and drawing, inside the marquee, Woodhouse and Law worked their magic outside in the three glasshouses
See their write up here

Working with and supplying beautiful props, and carefully selected garden adornments, the team skilfully arranged the student’s textile products inside the glasshouses to create three individual settings of great charm and appeal.

Thank you Woodhouse and Law for your commitment, enthusiasm and extensive knowledge; attributes that you are so willing to share.Thank you.

Here’s a LINK too to the marvellous glasshouses

Styling in Somerset.

Last year’s graduate Alice Baldwin has put her tremendous styling and display skills to great effect by opening her own shop in her hometown of Wellington in Somerset.

Alice says…

I opened the shop this week in Wellington, Somerset as this is my home.
It made sense to start here.

As you can probably remember from my time at university, interior design and styling was the direction I was heading and the idea for the shop has been taken from that.

The name is Kin Lifestyle, Kin meaning family. I chose this name, as there’s a connection to ‘family’ in the products I have for sale. I have sourced products that are a mixture of old and new, handcrafted and made with raw materials. This means each product is unique and imperfect and in some pieces, for example an Indian wooden rice bucket, that was used to measure the amount of rice needed to feed a family at the markets. You can see the maker’s carvings and marks, which gives a sense of authenticity and story behind the product.

The shop has been set up and styled with the products for sale as you would imagine them in your home, I wanted the shop to give off a very laid back and wholesome atmosphere to compliment the stock…..

Kin Lifestyle can be found at 7a North Street, Wellington Somerset.

We wish you the very best of luck in your new venture Alice.
It all looks truly wonderful.

Watch out for us all descending for stylish treats and presents!

Louisa has really enjoyed

her work experience in Cornwall with designer/ maker Poppy Treffry.

‘I chose to do some work experience with a well known local textiles artist, Poppy Treffry, who creates interiors, accessories and altogether quirky products.
It’s a great opportunity to develop an understanding for how a business in Cornwall works and creates designs based on our beautiful surrounds.

I have been welcomed into the team and helped with constructing, prepping and stock taking all the products.

Being in a working studio has opened my eyes to the importance of quality and design, but also to the amazing job in hand.

I have also been offered a job as a sales assistant in the job in St Ives, the joy of selling products that I have help to make is an amazing feeling, but its even better when you see how happy the products make the customers.

Poppy has created an amazing business and am so grateful for the opportunity she had given me’

Great experience Louisa. We look forward to hearing more when you start the 2nd year.

and so the shop opens…

The products that the 2nd year students have been designing and making are now starting to be displayed in the studio shop ready to sell from tomorrow.
This is a trial run for when we exhibit at the BIG show…SITS Cheltenham in October.

Thanks to Anna,Harriet and Charlotte, the display team.
