Recycle and Re-invent

The first years could spin a yarn but better still they are inventing their own.

Using found materials and spoils from the scrapstore the students are creating fantasy yarns and threads. From this experiment they will construct exciting 3D surfaces and structures

WOW! I still can’t believe this. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

When it was announced last year that I was shortlisted for Ones to Watch 2020 – Female Business Leader, I thought it was a scam junk email 🙈. I just couldn’t believe it. So to find out it was real and I’d not only been shortlisted but ended up winning my category was a complete shock!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is a huge achievement for me and DND as my first award, I’m so excited to see where this year will take me now.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A massive thank you to the @princes_trust_bristol who nominated me and for Enterprising West for the award 🏆

Imagine…

working in this printroom. Enjoying the colour, pattern, fabric and creating your own designs

Two print tables, ready to go
Prepare your colours in the dye baths or prepare

to print
Exposing your own screens ready to print metres of fabric for fashion or interiors.
Steaming once printed will fix the print to the cloth.
Using the the right size screen for the job will help you create the design of your choice

What we’ve got and how we use it so effectively:Embroidery

An occasional round up of the fabulous facilities here at the School of Design in Bath UK

First off…

Embroidery and the fabulous ZSK INDUSTRIAL machines

Once hand skills have been mastered and projects discussed, induction into the industrial machines commences.

Louise has set the workshop up to go……

Joy has set up the domestic and specialist machines in the embroidery workshop. Here examples inspire development of techniques and processes

All kinds of projects can be completed on the domestic machines with inspiration, help and guidance
Students settle down to complete their work
and of course they occasionally need running repairs

Other machines include the Irish machine, the Cornelli, the Leather machine and the Tufter; each machine offering a different process to investigate

Come and see what they do and of course what you can do with them….

Good Luck

To our students working at Julien MacDonald on the special project

Celebrity Dressing

Eventually I’m sure all will be revealed!
